Is CAN-based instrumentation better than traditional wiring?
CAN-based instrumentation is generally better for modern vehicles because it replaces large bundles of individual sensor wires with one shared digital network. This lowers wiring weight and installation cost, reduces failure points, enables advanced diagnostics, and lets gauges or displays be added through software instead of rewiring. Traditional point-to-point wiring may still suit very simple systems. For OEMs building complex or configurable vehicles, CAN delivers faster assembly, easier customization, and more information through a single connection.
